Architecture Design Course
This course offers the curriculum where awareness of the issues is enhanced by various lesson experiences.
In order to pull out mental fullness required for environmental design, this course offers curriculums that stimulate
students'susceptibility, curiosity and inquiry mind, and deepen awareness of issues.

In the freshman and sophomore year, this course offers "debate-type
lesson" where students can use their heads and
deepen their understanding of nature or culture. This
lesson is performed in parallel with " studio-work
lesson" where students can acquire actual expression
techniques. From the junior year when students are divided
into some courses, this course offers "workshop-type
lesson" where students can develop awareness of
issues and gain design thought. This spiral-type curriculum
where students repeat discovery of subjects and solution
through various lesson experiences is also its specialty. |

This
course aims that students reach mutuality as builders by original
sensitive education of a university of arts.
Architecture is one of the oldest learning for human, and
is also the matrix of art. Geometry has developed for architectureand
mural and sculpture has competed beauty as ornaments that
also color architectures. Therefore, it is necessary for students
to acquire all learning and arts in order to become mature
builders. This course offers indispensable knowledge to builders,
based on the original sensitive education of a university
of arts. The curriculum that emphasizes on what the architecture
as arts was especially at the literary viewpoint is the specialty.
Architecture is also considered from each viewpoint, such
as the city that is full of architectures or the house where
we live in.
The sense of language is improved
so as to design view of architecture.
Architecture is also an art. The original education in this
university is designing view of architecture. A space is created
with reading the mind of users. Therefore, first of all, it
is necessary to improve the sense of language. It is not too
much to say that the lifeline for builders is literature.
In novels and poetries, vivid description of people's city
life or home life is made and mentality is also drawn. Students
do the design with this clue of the construction. Of course,
it is also indispensable to learn technique required as builders
and to acquire of the practical know-how. The growth from
both sides of mental and technique has been encouraged for
four years.

Landscape Design Course
This course nurtures workers as creative
designers who bond people with natural environment.
The capability, and sensitivity of reading the message from
the nature surrounding human and designing with arts and techniques,
are required in order to become the landscape designers who
can treat the open places of leafy parks and cities, and broad
area from gardens to country environment. In this course,
students learn the basics for plastic arts with which we treat
the whole environment by the sophomore year. And, from thejunior
year, students go back to the origin of the thoughts in the
background of landscape designs, and the talented people who
can express with broad view are trained.
By Kyoto's unique fieldwork, tradition
and newest design thoughts and techniques are studied.
This course has two specialties. One is to study the practical
design based on traditional techniques, and another is that
there are chances to get the latest expression and sense of
design peculiar to a university of arts. By doing fieldwork
in Katsura Rikyu (Katsura Detached Palace) or Shugakuin (Shugakuin
Imperial Villa) where there are cultural and artistic environment
and the nature of Kyoto known since Heian period, students
learn traditional techniques of Japan in practical training.
Furthermore, students study the thoughts and techniques of
original sensitive expression of space through modern arts.
And, the writers and the educators who act in the front lines
of the"@worldwide field teach at this course.
This course nurtures landscape architects
as environmental artists.
Now is the time when everyone is interested in landscape.
And the landscape architects who can produce the latest designfrom
Kyoto are required like the architects of Milan or Florence,
which are the ancient cities in Italy. This course trains
people who have the power of the techniques with synthetic
logical thoughts and people's feeling and design, in order
to produce the landscape architects as environmental artists
who put the fusion of arts, ecology and community into the
view.

Area Design Course
This course raises the power to change
required now and the sensitivity of artists.
Even if each park and building is excellent, it doesn't follow
that the town is beautiful and livable. Calculation of entire
streets and planning of the town as life space are the indispensable
elements. And now, local designs need the power to change
and the sensitivity with which one canfeel new possibility
and attraction peculiar to various environments, such as big
city, small city, residential sections, farm village and fishing
village. Local designs also need intellect with which one
designs each relation between nature and human, human and
city, city and country. In Kyoto full of traditions and newness,
this course aims to train sensitive people who design familiar
living environments with global view.
This course nurtures designers of town
planning on the site.
There are three educational targets in this course.

social economy and natural environment, and design environment
synthetically. |

of value and talents. By achieving these three targets,
this course aims to nurture able designers or artists
who play the central role of town planning or area developing. |
